Patrick Cashell, our chairman stands down after 5 years of service.
At the AGM this year Patrick Cashell announced that he wished to stand down after five successful years as chairman of the Association.
Patrick took on the chairmanship when the Mount House Association was revived – one of the few who were prepared to take on responsibility for helping to rebuild the organisation. As part of this exercise, Patrick was committed to encouraging the older members to return and the success of this can be seen in the membership roll.
Despite suffering from a period of severe illness, Patrick never shirked his responsibilities. He continued to provide sound advice and undertook his tasks as usual without complaint. He chaired the committee with authority, keeping the more vocal members in line, whilst ensuring that everyone had their say. Patrick with his encyclopaedic knowledge of the school, staff and pupils helped the MHA make many important decisions, enabling it to move forward to a more certain future. His speeches were always amusing and to the point when representing the MHA, holding the attention of both the former and current pupils and staff.
Patrick can take much credit for the re-launch of the MHA and for its current success. Without his valuable contribution, the MHA would have folded. We are delighted (and not a little relieved) that Patrick has agreed to continue to serve as a committee member. The Mount House Association and committee members would like to thank him for all he has done on its behalf and look forward to his continual service on the committee!

Tony Wortham "Tradescant Garden" opened on 3rd July 2011
Tony left a legacy in his will to the King's School Canterbury. It was his wish that this should go towards the creation of a "Tradescant Garden" and that his ashes should be scattered within the grounds of Canterbury Cathedral used by the school. Largely due to the energies of the late Denis Ball and Iain Bentley the gardens have now been created and were opened on 3rd July 2011 as part of King's week. Tony's ashes were committed in the garden on the same day.

Marquee for the school
We have bought a small marquee in time for this year's Association Day, our days of struggling with gazeboes on a windswept morning are over! It arrived at the school in time to give the grounds men a challenging day as the instructions seemed to be missing! It was used to shelter the food and refreshing ale from the uncommonly hot sunshine on Association Day, but really came into its own the next day, when true to form, the rain appeared for the end of the parents versus leavers cricket match.

Memorial to past Mount House Teachers
A memorial to past Mount House School staff, in the form of an armillary sphere, has been unveiled at The School by the Headmaster Jim Massey. It was presented to The School by the Mount House Association as a tribute to the many staff members who have contributed so much to The School and its pupils over the years.
The BBC use Tony Wortham's film footage
We were contacted by the makers of a BBC4 documentary, as they heard that we hold some film footage on the rescue from the 'Jeanne Gougy' (a French fishing trawler) of it's crew members in 1962. They were delighted with Tony Wortham's capture of events, and made a donation of £300 towards the costs of the digitalisation of the Wortham Archive. The program called "For those in Peril" and was shown on BBC4 at 9pm on Tuesday 4th May. Here is the link to the makers of the program: Available light TV
A sculpture in memory of Tony Wortham
The Association, in conjunction with Jim Massey the current Headmaster, have decided to commission an outdoor sculpture in memory of Tony Wortham. The current pupils have been given the task of producing an outline for the piece, from a brief given to them on his character, interests and hobbies. The winning idea will be reflected in local granite by the sculptor. We will be launching an appeal for donations towards this project in the forthcoming months. We have invited Peter Wortham, Tony's nephew to unveil the finished piece on Association Day, June 2011.
Philip Moore died on Wednesday 20th January 2010.
A service of thanksgiving was held on Tuesday 16th February, at the Chapel, Sutton's Hospital in Charterhouse, London. The address was given by Lord Butler of Brockwell KG and The Master of Charterhouse.
