Minutes of the AGM 2009
Minutes of the Third Annual General Meeting of The Mount House Association held at The School on Saturday 4th July 2009.
1. The Minutes of the AGM of 28th June were read. Jon Elworthy proposed and Graham Bush seconded that they be signed as a true record.
2. Committee Members: Ella Toynton was formally welcomed. Ian Kilpatrick and Alex Stannus did not seek re-election. The Chairman proposed the re-election en bloc of the Committee, namely: Jon Elworthy (Secretary), Chris Redman (Treasurer), Jim Massey (ex officio), Jon Banyard, Graham Bush, Gavin Grier-Rees, Suse Hammond, Ellie Malcolm, Melanie Redman, Ella Toynton and Nicky Toynton.
3. Treasurer’s Report:
Chris Redman presented the Annual Accounts which had been independently examined and confirmed as correct by Bill Lane of Churchtown Accounts, Peter Tavy. It was noted that the Association had received less money from the membership than in previous years and that a watchful eye should be kept on expenditure. The accounts will be posted on the website for members to access them and make comments to the Committee. The Chairman thanked Chris Redman for keeping the accounts and for maintaining a steady and calm approach.
4. Independent Examiner:
The Treasurer proposed the re-appointment of Bill Lane as Independent Examiner, seconded by the chairman – all agreed. A letter would be sent to Bill Lane thanking him for his work.
5. Chairman’s Report:
Patrick Cashell congratulated Melanie Redman and complimented her on the website which, it was agreed, was proving a valuable link with past pupils and parents. He suggested that, whilst facebook, for example, had to some extent made the need for reunions unnecessary, gatherings such as Association Day still had a place. He felt that the Association should still endeavour to attract past pupils of all ages to social meetings. He asked that the date for next year’s Association Day be published well in advance with the intention of encouraging past pupils to return to The School. A Dinner might be arranged for the Friday evening which might lead to greater numbers attending the AGM in order to explore further ways of organising social events in the future. He expressed his thanks to all those on the Committee for their work and thanked Pat Tear for taking the Minutes.
6. Election of Chairman
for the year 2009-2010: Patrick Cashell, having agreed to stand once more, was elected Chairman for a third year, proposed by Nicky Toynton, seconded by Graham Bush. The Chairman proposed Nicky Toynton be elected Vice-Chairman, seconded by Ellie Malcolm and agreed unanimously.
7. Other Business:
a) The Chairman congratulated Nicky Toynton on her recent appointment as a Governor of Mount House School.
b) Dates of MHA events will be published in the Mount House monthly newsletter, the School Calendar and Fanfare.
